Find a reliable starting point

Use the right resource for the kind of help you need.

Some legal questions require an attorney. Some people may qualify for civil legal aid. Others may need a court website, a public agency, a consumer-protection resource, a local library, or a community organization.

This directory is designed to help Missourians locate credible starting points. Availability, qualifications, service areas, income rules, case types, and current capacity can change, so contact the organization directly for the most current information.

Urgent matters

Do not wait for a directory search if time or safety is limited.

If you have a court date, filing deadline, eviction notice, foreclosure concern, protection-order issue, domestic-violence concern, criminal charge, immigration matter, child-safety concern, or immediate risk of losing housing or benefits, seek qualified help promptly.

Citizens Law Library cannot calculate deadlines, determine what legal action applies, provide emergency assistance, or evaluate an individual case. In an immediate safety emergency, call 911 or your local emergency service.

Missouri Courts

Official court information and public case resources.

The Missouri Courts website is the primary source for statewide court information, local court contacts, court news, court rules, forms, and public case-information services. Local court practices, forms, filing procedures, remote-hearing instructions, and accessibility processes can vary.

Use court resources for official information. For legal advice about what a court document means, what to file, a deadline, evidence, or legal strategy, consult a qualified attorney or authorized legal-aid provider.

Private legal help

Search for or verify a Missouri lawyer.

A private lawyer may provide legal advice, review documents, negotiate, appear in court, or offer limited-scope representation depending on the lawyer, the matter, the county, and the services agreed upon.

Before hiring a lawyer, ask about the type of cases handled, consultation fees, estimated costs, availability, communication practices, and whether limited-scope representation is available.
